Nannies in Gauteng
Find a nanny for your family
A nanny can help with your child’s daily routine while you work or manage other commitments. Home Helper Connect lets you compare listed helpers by childcare experience, location, languages and availability before choosing whom to contact.
Verification status is shown per profile. Check which references and supporting documents are available before hiring.

Choose support for your child’s age and routine
Write down the hours you need, your children’s ages and the duties you expect. These might include preparing meals, supervising play, helping with the school routine or caring for a baby. Confirm each responsibility with the candidate; a nanny’s childcare experience does not automatically cover every age group or additional household duty.
- Ask about experience with children of a similar age and request relevant references.
- Discuss meals, allergies, school transport and emergency contacts.
- Agree on working hours, live-in or live-out arrangements, duties and pay.

Frequently asked questions
Helpful answers before you choose support for your home.
How do I find an experienced infant or newborn nanny near me?
Filter nanny profiles by your city or province, then ask specifically about recent infant or newborn care experience. Discuss feeding, sleep routines, hygiene and emergency procedures, and contact references from families with children of a similar age. Confirm relevant first-aid training and availability directly.
What qualifications or documents should I check when hiring a nanny in South Africa?
Check identity, permission to work where applicable, childcare references and any claimed childcare or first-aid certificates. Ask which background-check documents are available and when they were issued. Verify documents and references rather than assuming a profile or course certificate establishes suitability.
Can I hire a nanny for school lifts and afternoon homework supervision?
Yes, if the candidate has the experience and availability for those duties. Agree on school collection authorisations, hours and homework support. For driving, verify the appropriate licence, vehicle, insurance and child-seat arrangements. You can also explore au pair profiles for school-day support.
What is the average nanny salary in South Africa?
There is no single salary that fits every nanny role, and we do not publish a verified national average. Pay varies by location, experience, hours, number of children and additional duties. Compare similar local roles and agree on pay that meets the current applicable minimum wage and employment requirements. The R300 shortlist fee is separate from the nanny’s wages.
Can I find a nanny in Johannesburg, Pretoria or other parts of Gauteng?
You can enquire online about a nanny across Gauteng, including Johannesburg, Sandton, Soweto, Roodepoort, the West Rand, Pretoria, Centurion, Ekurhuleni and the Vaal. Home Helper Connect is run from Ruimsig; you do not need to visit our home base. Tell us your suburb or township, your children’s ages and childcare schedule. Availability depends on suitable candidates and agreed travel arrangements.
